The Arcomagno

The most prestigious natural site is undoubtedly the Arcomagno. The path leading to the small beach of Arcomagno is carved into the rock. The Arcomagno beach (Grotta d’u Saracinu) appears as a small earthly paradise, with a natural lagoon shaped like a half-moon that stretches for about 25 meters.

The Arcomagno beach owes its name to the presence of a large rock arch that shelters it from the sea, making it unique. This little corner of Calabria was once a landing point for the Saracens heading to Italy, and it is also known as Grotta del Saraceno (Saracen’s Cave). The cave is very humid due to a fresh water spring inside it.

Beyond the large arch, one can admire the Scorzone Rock. This huge limestone rock extends for about 12 meters and is mostly made up of rock and vegetation in its central part. According to local tradition, the rock owes its name to the biacco, a harmless viper known in the local Calabrian dialect as u scurzun.

The Arcomagno site falls within a community interest area called SIC Isola Dino – Capo Scalea.
